Bangor Worldwide has released details of their plans to celebrate their 90th Convention which will take place from Friday 14th to Sunday 23rd August 2026 during its recent preview launch events.
Speaking at the launch events, Chairman Tom Clarke said, “For 90 years, Bangor Worldwide has been a place where God stirs hearts – to pray, to give, and to go. It has offered a space to listen and learn, to be challenged and changed and ultimately to answer Jesus’ call to make disciples of all nations. On Saturday 15th August, we will launch our specially commissioned anniversary book, When God Plants Acorns, telling the story of the impact of the Convention down through the decades.
“Our main celebration evening will be held in the Waterfront Hall, Belfast on Saturday 22nd August and tickets are available to buy now. This will be in partnership with New Irish Arts, and Alistair Begg from Truth for Life and Bishop David McClay will be the main speakers. In a nod to our heritage of open air services decades ago, we will also host a seafront service at the Pickie Arena in Bangor on Sunday 23rd August 2026.
“International speakers making the journey to Northern Ireland that week include Timothy Cho, a two time escapee who endured imprisonment in China and North Korea, and David Gordon, director of the Dohnavur Fellowship in India, which is the ongoing ministry of the late Amy Carmichael.
“Bible teaching is an integral part of Bangor Worldwide and this year we are delighted that Conrad Mbewe is making a return to lead these for us. The Bible studies start each morning at 11.30am and run from Monday 17th to Friday 21st.
“A major change this year is where our events are being held. Our normal Convention venue is not available so we would just ask people to double check the programme online to ensure they go to the right building! The morning prayer time and Bible study will be held in Hamilton Road Baptist Church whilst the weekday evenings will be moved to the Bangor Elim. A wide range of mission agencies will also be with us in our ever popular Global Village allowing people to go deeper in their missional experience.
“Satellite events will take place in other towns and cities including Dublin, Dollingstown, Drogheda, Portstewart, Magherafelt and Portrush.
“Faith Mission will have their Gospel Truck at Lisnabreen Presbyterian Church running a children’s club on weekday mornings, and there are other various seminars arranged – be sure to check out the full programme. Registration will be required for some of the events and bookings can be made via the Bangor Worldwide website.”
An evening launch was held in Hamilton Road Baptist Church, Bangor with additional leaders’ brunches held in Bangor and All Saints Church, Belfast. Mez McConnell from Scotland spoke at the events and an overview of the summer programme was given.
