Ballymena launch of ‘Considering Grace: Presbyterians and the Troubles’

Wednesday 13th November 2019

The Ballymena launch of the book – ‘Considering Grace: Presbyterians and the Troubles’ – is taking place on Wednesday 13th November 2019 at the Rosspark Hotel at 5:30pm. The hotel address is 20 Doagh Road, Kells, Ballymena BT42 3LZ.
A light tea will be provided and it is envisaged that the event will be over by 7:00pm.

The launch event will include readings from the book, input from author Dr Gladys Ganiel and a response from Mr Dessie Blackadder, Editor of the Ballymena Guardian.

Event organiser, Rev Daniel Kane told The Church Page:“‘Considering Grace’ records the deeply moving stories of 120 ordinary people’s experiences of the Troubles exploring how faith shaped their responses to violence and its aftermath. It contributes to the process of ‘dealing with the past’ by pointing towards the need for a ‘gracious remembering’ that acknowledges suffering, is self-critical about the past, and creates space for lament, but more importantly hope for the future.

It is the product of a great deal of hard work carried out under the ‘Dealing with the Past Project Task Group’ which was established after the 2016 General Assembly to manage the project, ‘How did Presbyterians respond to the Troubles'”.

Rev. Kane added: “This is the first book to capture such a full range of experiences of the Troubles of people from a Protestant background. It also includes the perspectives of women and people from border counties and features leading public figures, such as former Deputy First Minister Seamus Mallon of the SDLP, Jeffrey Donaldson of the DUP, Garda Commissioner Drew Harris, and former Victims Commissioner Bertha McDougall.”
