Applications are now open for a new Music Director at Ballynure Presbyterian Church!
The congregation’s Minister, Rev Matthew Kelso told The Church Page: “We are a warm and welcoming congregation seeking a Music Director to help shape and strengthen the musical life of our church. Music is central to our worship, and we are looking for someone with a heart for worship, strong musical ability, and a collaborative leadership style. This role would suit an individual who can lead confidently, encourage volunteers, and work closely with the Minister to plan meaningful, accessible worship. Keyboard skills are desirable, as this instrument is used in most of our services.”
Matthew went on to say that: “We are looking for someone who is a committed Christian with a heart for worship, able to lead musical worship confidently and sensitively, organised, dependable, and a good communicator, and collaborative in working with the Minister and volunteers. Candidates will be sympathetic with the beliefs of the Presbyterian Church in Ireland and will work in accordance with PCI safeguarding policies. Desirable qualities include keyboard proficiency, experience arranging music, familiarity with SongSelect, team leadership, and choir direction. An Enhanced Access NI check will be required prior to appointment.”
Key Responsibilities of the role:
• Plan music for services in consultation with the Minister
• Select hymns and worship songs suited to the theme and congregation
• Prepare music and rehearsal materials in advance, as required
• Lead rehearsals and coordinate musicians and singers
• Provide musical direction during services
• Support and develop volunteers of varying experience
• Introduce new songs sensitively and build confidence in congregational singing
• Help identify and nurture new musical talent
• Explore opportunities for choir development, youth involvement, and special seasonal services
