Traditional Hymn Singing for those living with Dementia & their carers at Moira Presbyterian Church

Traditional Hymn Singing for people living with dementia and their carers takes place on the last Friday of each month at Moira Presbyterian Church starting at 2.30pm. Do you know someone living with dementia who still loves to sing or are you a carer? Why not go along to this fantastic outreach!

One of the event organisers, Alma McNeill, revealed a little about the background to this fantastic initiative, saying: “The idea developed through a recent coffee morning we began in church to address the issue of loneliness in our community. We then thought about the loneliness of carers, particularly those caring for loved ones who live with dementia.

“We know the parts of the brain that remember music are amongst the last to be affected by dementia, and some people who may struggle to hold a conversation can still sing every word of hymns they learned in their youth. Singing is good for everyone so we thought having a time of traditional hymn singing followed by tea, cake, and an opportunity to chat would be beneficial for both carers and their loved ones.”
