Rev John McClure retires as rector of Muckamore, Killead and Gartree Parishes

Thanks were expressed to the Rev John McClure and his wife Margo on the occasion of John’s retirement as rector of St Catherine’s, Killead.

John and Margo were presented with gifts by the Church Wardens of St Catherine’s on behalf of the Select Vestry and the congregation in recognition of their dedicated service to the church and the community in Killead. John unfortunately had to take early retirement due to ill health.

John, who was rector of Muckamore Killead and Gartree parishes, thanked the Church Wardens, Mrs Dorothy Molyneaux and Mr Victor Sefton, along with the Select Vestry and congregation for all their support, encouragement and the gifts presented to him and Margo.

Miss Amy McMillan presented Margo with a bouquet of flowers.

John and Margo have made many friends in the area over the years and will be sadly be missed by all. The Select Vestry said he will be ‘especially remembered for his teaching of The Word of God and for his special invaluable humour and the great ability at being able to laugh at himself at times.’

The parish wishes John and Margo many happy years of retirement together along with their children and grandchildren.

On Sunday May 22, 2022, it was the turn of Muckamore and Gartree parishioners to say farewell to John and Margo at a special retirement service held for him at St Jude’s, Muckamore.

This wonderful service celebrated the work and dedication that John and Margo put into the three parishes of Muckamore, Killead and Gartree, and was followed by a presentation of gifts and a time of fellowship where many parishioners got to catch up with John and Margo over refreshments.
