CoI Liturgical Advisory Committee Publishes Prayers for the Platinum Jubilee

2022 will see a series of events across the UK to mark the Platinum Jubilee of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth the Second. Although the Jubilee Weekend is scheduled for 2nd-5th June, Sunday 6th February is the date of the 70th anniversary of the Queen’s accession to the throne.

In advance of a wider suite of resources which will be published later in the year, the Church of Ireland’s Liturgical Advisory Committee (LAC) has published two Collects for clergy, readers and other worship leaders who may wish to remember this significant anniversary during services on Sunday, 6th February.

The Revd Adrian Dorrian, who is Chaplain to the LAC, said: “The Liturgical Advisory Committee looks forward to publishing more resources to help mark Her Majesty’s Platinum Jubilee later in the year. We are glad to make these Collects available at this stage for use in churches on Sunday, 6th February. Worship leaders may wish to use one of them alongside the Collect of the Fourth Sunday before Lent, or during the Prayers of Intercession.”

The Collects are printed in full below:
Almighty God,
whose son Jesus Christ is the Prince of Peace;
Grant that, as we celebrate the earthly reign
of your servant Elizabeth our Queen,
so through her example of faith and self-giving
your people may come to know
the fulness of your power and glory;
through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
or
Lord God, the Ancient of Days,
you are sovereign over all your people;
Give to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth
enduring wisdom and faith
in the service of the people of this land
and of you, her Lord and master.
Grant that her faithful witness
may be to others a source of hope,
that they may come to know more fully
your Son Jesus Christ,
who is alive and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit,
one God, now and for ever. Amen.
