Just For You (Kindness) is an event for parents and carers of children with special needs that is being run by Care for the Family on Friday 26th September 2025. The venue will be Belfast Sydenham Salvation Army Church, 13 Station Mews Sydenham BT4 1TL and it will get underway at 8pm.
Leading the seminar will be Nicola Watson-Bird, Additional Needs Support Coordinator with Care for the Family.
Revealing more about the event, Nicola told The Church Page:
“At Care for the Family we understand that parenting a child or children with additional needs can be both exhausting and exciting. Little changes can make a big difference, the cause for celebration or consternation! Not everyone gets it. Not everyone understands this remarkable parenting journey.
We also know that parents of children with additional needs may often feel isolated and discouraged, and it can be hard to connect with others in a similar situation.
This event gives parents the opportunity to gather together for mutual support and encouragement. We will consider the impact of kindness – being kind to ourselves, kindness as a key to understanding our children, and the difference it can make in relationships with partners, family members and professionals. There will be time to listen, to share your story and reflect with others who ‘get it’.
Our guest speaker is Donna Jennings. Donna has a son with a diagnosis of autism, severe learning disability and challenging behaviours, and is an advocate and champion of supporting parents of children with additional needs.”
Nicola Watson-Bird, Care for the Family’s Additional Needs Support Coordinator, will welcome you and host the event. Nicola has a grown-up daughter with learning difficulties and global developmental delay.
She added: “We hope you will leave this event feeling less isolated and better able to receive, as well as give, kindness. Please book your place and do pass on the details of this event to anyone else who also parents a child with additional needs. I look forward to meeting you.”
