2020 Clive West Memorial Trust Lecture at All Saints’ Parish Church, Belfast

Tuesday 24th March 2020

The guest speaker at the 2020 Clive West Memorial Trust Lecture on Tuesday 24th March 2020 will be the Rev Canon Vaughan Roberts. He is rector of St Ebbe’s Church, Oxford, and his topic is: ‘Fractured Church Broken World.’ He will be addressing the issue of Christian witness to a world which is hindered by a Church that is equally as fragmented. The lecture takes place in All Saints’ Parish Church, University Street, Belfast.

Guest speaker at the 2020 Clive West Memorial Trust Lecture at All Saints’ Parish Church, Belfast will be Rev Canon Vaughan Roberts.

The Clive West Memorial Trust was established in 2016 to remember and celebrate the ministry of Canon Clive West, former rector of the parish of All Saints’, Belfast, (1984-2000) and a canon of St Anne’s Cathedral, Belfast.
Amongst its aims is the financial support of those in theological education and training for service of the Church in Ireland. In its short life span, it has raised close to £43,000 and supported six individuals with modest bursaries in their preparation for a lifetime of ministry, to serve churches in Ireland.
The Trust also runs an annual lecture, and since being launched in 2016. The lectures have been attended by more than 500 people, ranging in age and background.

The subjects chosen for the lectures reflect Clive’s ministry interests and priorities. The topics have ranged from the faith at the heart of The Book of Common Prayer, Christianity in a pluralistic world, evangelicalism, and the 16th century reformation with practical application for life as global Anglican Christians in the 21st century.

The Trust has been privileged to have had world-class speakers from across the Anglican Communion to address the lectures. The Rt Rev Dr Michael Nazir-Ali, the retired Bishop of Rochester; the Rev Canon Dr Ashley Null, visiting faculty of the Universities of Cambridge and Durham and a canon of the Diocese of the Carolinas (USA); the Rev Canon Dr Mark Thompson, the Principal of Moore Theological College, Sydney; and the Rev Phillip Jensen, former Dean of Sydney, have been the guest lecturers.

Another aspect of the Trust’s work has been the production of resources. The videos of the lectures (to be found on www.westtrust.co.uk), have been downloaded more than 3,500 times. They have been translated (through subtitle) into Spanish by the Anglican Province of Chile’s seminary and used by them, with other South American churches and congregations from across the Americas benefiting.
