Gospel Music Hymn Sing – A First For Northern Ireland // Sunday 16 November 2025
Prepare for an unforgettable evening of worship and celebration as the renowned Gerald Wolfe Hymn Sing is set to take place on 16th November in Glenmachan Church, Belfast. This remarkable evening will feature 30 of America’s leading gospel singers, promising an uplifting experience for attendees of all ages. Singers include Greater Vision, The Mylon Hayes Family, The Whisnants’, The Mark Trammell Quartet, Jim and Melissa Brady.
The Gerald Wolfe Hymn Sing is celebrated for its powerful renditions of cherished hymns, and this year’s gathering will shine a special spotlight on the beloved hymn “What a Friend We Have in Jesus,” written by Joseph Scriven, a native of Banbridge. This timeless hymn, with its poignant message of solace and friendship in Jesus, resonates deeply with believers and will be a highlight of the evening. Joseph M Scriven wrote the poem while he was in Canada to comfort his ill mother back home in Ireland in 1855. The poem was later set to music by Charles Converse in 1868 and has become the beloved hymn we know today.
Gerald Wolfe, a prominent figure in the gospel music community, expressed his excitement for the event, stating, “We are thrilled to bring the sounds of America’s top gospel talent to Northern Ireland. Hymns like ‘What a Friend We Have in Jesus’ remind us of the comfort and strength we find in our faith, and we can’t wait to share that message with everyone.” He also added that “music has the incredible power to bring people together, and hymns hold a special place in our hearts. I am thrilled to see how this event has evolved and expanded over the years, creating a community that celebrates faith and fellowship through song.”
The evening promises a rich tapestry of music, featuring acclaimed artists who have dedicated their lives to spreading joy and hope through song. Attendees will experience a mix of familiar hymns and contemporary gospel favourites; all performed in a spirit of unity and reverence.
The Hymn Sing Tour began back in 2014 and has taken them as far as Australia. We are honoured that Belfast is to be included in one of their two concert dates in their next out of state tour.
Join us on 16 November for a night of worship that honours the past, celebrates the present, and inspires the future through the power of song. We look forward to seeing you there.
