Verse Of The Week | 23rd September 2019

Harvest is well and truly underway as Northern Ireland’s farmers and gardeners bring in their crops for another year. We’ve been focusing on verses over the last few weeks with a harvest theme and we continue this week with another one.

“When you reap the harvest of your land, do not reap to the very edge of your field or gather the gleanings of your harvest. Do not go over your vineyard a second time or pick up the grapes that have fallen. Leave them for the poor and the alien. I am the Lord your God.”
Leviticus 19 v 9 & 10

One of the various laws given by God to Moses which helped protect the poor and the alien (or foreigner) but also a great reminder to us that we should help and support those in need and the vulnerable in our society – in particular, in today’s world, this reminds me of foodbanks, etc which are a fantastic ministry in many of our churches. Let’s pray for the work they do in our communities and support them if we can.
