Ballygowan Presbyterian marks centenary of Great War ending

Ballygowan Presbyterian Church are having a series of events to mark the centenary of the ending of the Great War.

2018 marks the centenary of the ending of World War 1. This is a significant milestone in world history that not only changed the world but had a lasting impact on people and communities.
This is certainly true for the community in Ballygowan. It is for this reason that Ballygowan Presbyterian Church wanted to mark the occasion by holding several events to which everyone in the community is invited and will be warmly welcomed.

Details of events as Ballygowan Presbyterian Church marks the centenary of the ending of the Great War.

Outlining the programme, a spokesman for Ballygowan Presbyterian told The Church Page:
Sunday 4th November 2018 at 6:30pm – Café Church in the Church Halls on the Comber Road. This is a relaxed meeting when people sit round tables, listen to some music, enjoy coffee, tea and buns and hear someone share their story of faith in Jesus. Brenda Hale will be with us to share her story. Her husband served with the British Army and was killed in Afghanistan in 2009.

Then, on Tuesday 6th November 2018 at 8:00pm in the Minor Hall Comber Road. Paul Somerville from Soldiers and Airmen’s Scriptures Readers Association will speak about the work they do with the Military.

Following this on Thursday 8th November 2018 at 8:00pmAn evening with Philip Orr in the Church Halls on the Comber Road. Philip Orr is the author of a number of books and dramas that deal with aspects of Irish history, especially the Irish experience of World War One. We also hope to have an exhibition of World War One memorabilia.

Finally, on Sunday 11th November 2018 at 11:30am – Remembrance Day Parade and Service. The parade will take place to the War Memorial at 11:00am. This will be followed by the Remembrance Day Service at 11:30am in Ballygowan Presbyterian Church.

Followed at 6:45pm by – I Vow to Thee My Country. We conclude the week of events with a service of hymns and readings for Remembrance Day. This will be led by the Church choir and visiting guests.”
