An opportunity to attend a one day Bible workshop with Precept Ministries being held in High Kirk Church, Ballymena. Developed and run by Precept Ministries Ireland, this Bible workshop is on Saturday 11th June 2016 from 10:00 AM to 4:30 PM. Entitled ‘How the Bible Fits Together’, it will help you to identify the main people and time periods of the Bible. You will also learn how they come together and recognise God’s big picture for yourself. This will be an interactive workshop with those attending completing worksheets as they go through the course.
It is no secret that we are living in the day of biblical literacy in decline. This has become evident as I watch people on popular game shows get simple details of certain Bible stories incorrect. In a recent survey carried out by the United Kingdom Bible Society they found that one in three didn’t choose the Nativity as part of the Bible. Over half (59 percent) didn’t know that Jonah being swallowed by the great fish is in the Bible. Around 30 percent of parents don’t know that Adam and Eve, David and Goliath, or the Good Samaritan are in the Bible. It has become evident that the lack of biblical literacy has led to a lack of biblical doctrine as people continue to deem the Bible as irrelevant, out of date and an unimportant ingredient for society today. According to recent polls even churchgoers aren’t reading ‘The Book!’ with 40% saying that they only read their Bible occasionally meaning once or twice a month. One in five admitted to never reading the Bible at all. One of the reasons for this is that people don’t understand the one story that it has been telling all these years. They don’t see the continuation of its message and therefore miss what it is communicating to those living in our world today.
